Bao is one of the region’s oldest and most respected strategy games, traditionally played throughout Tanzania, Kenya, Zanzibar, and neighboring areas. The Swahili word bao means “board,” and the game has long encouraged planning, patience, observation, and critical thinking.
Our board uses Bao 6×2, a recognized modern adaptation that brings the spirit and strategy of traditional Bao to a smaller, family-friendly format. Each set includes a 6×2 Bao board and 36 handcrafted East African bone beads, making the game as beautiful to display as it is engaging to play.
Designed for two players, the goal is to strategically sow and capture beads while thinking several moves ahead. It is easy to begin learning, but the possibilities grow as your strategy develops.
